A beach from white and golden sand

Torre Guaceto beach is located in the municipality of Carovigno, Salento, and is part of the Torre Guaceto Marine Protected Area. The entire area is internationally famous for the production of extra virgin olive oil; in fact, there are many centuries-old olive groves in the area.

The beach is narrow and long and composed of fine-grained white and golden sand. It should be kept in mind that some stretches are not accessible precisely to preserve the marine reserve, such as the Shell Beach, made up of lots of small shells, which is protected by a bathing ban because it is part of Zone A where it is possible to go on diving excursions only with prior permission. Publicly accessible beaches are located in zone B, which includes the shoreline of Punta Penna Grossa beach, and zone C near Apani beach.

Sandy dunes separate the beach from the rest of the shoreline, and a crystal-clear turquoise sea envelops it. The seabed is rich in flora and fauna and slopes gently. Reefs, even at the water surface, are present and are dark in color.

A curiosity: the beach, and the entire area, owes its name to the Aragonese tower present that was used to spot the arrival of Saracen ships in the 16th century.
